I preached this sermon based on the passage in Exodus when Moses encounters God on top of the mountain. (You know, "take off your shoes" and burning bushes and all that).

I preached this sermon at Holy Innocents' Episcopal Church at the 1030 service on July 31. I wanted to spend some time relating who Jacob really was to the reality that God chooses all of us (and that all of us are blessed because we are God's children!)
Many thanks to Fr. Paul Fromberg and his sermon of July 24th at St Gregory of Nyssa. Much of the "kernel" of the idea for this sermon was inspired by his treatment of Jacob. (Check out the St Gregory of Nyssa Podcast on itunes. Lots of great preaching on there- including Sarah Miles!)
Bless you all and I hope that this sermon can help you along on your walk toward, with and around God.

We really don't title our sermons so much in The Episcopal Church, but this one is about Mary and Martha and the problem of hospitality. Is hospitality about food and drink or is the "true feast" the stuff that happens around all of that?

This is from way back-- I did this one back in December at St. Dunstan's and just saw that I never posted it. I am mostly putting this up for my Mom and a couple of out of town friends... Blessings!

I preached this at Tabernacle Baptist Church at the invitation of their Pastor, The Rev. Jimmy Gentry. Going back to my Baptist roots was fun and Tabernacle is a wonderful place full of God's hope and grace. I hope to go back again sometime to preach.

This is the last sermon I ever preached at Candler School of Theology, at least as a student. I am preaching John 3:16-21.
